After Care & FAQs
Getting your piercing is just the beginning! After care is vital to the success and health of your piercing. Properly caring for your piercing helps minimize the risk of infection, supports faster healing, and promotes the best long-term outcome. All clients will be sent home with an after care bag and are encouraged to purchase a sterile saline spray.
After Care Instructions
Spray your piercing at least twice daily with a sterile saline spray. This can be purchased at Sanctuary or another retailer. Sterile saline spray is not the same as contact solution, nasal spray or eye drops.
Do not twist or rotate your jewelry for any reason. This is an outdated method and will cause damage to your healing tissue.
Crusting, swelling, redness, and slight bleeding are a normal part of the healing process. You may gently rinse with saline spray or with cottons swabs.
If pain increases, blood persists or your swelling is concerning you, send us a text and our piercer is happy to evaluate your piercing.

Getting your ears pierced at Sanctuary is safe, sterile and easy. We utilize fully disposable, single-use, hollow needles for a hygienic piercing. Our piercer will walk you through the entire process, from selecting your jewelry, to positioning your piercing, and providing aftercare details.

If you are able to put the jewelry back in, do so immediately. If you have lost the jewelry, or a piece of it, and the piercing is still healing, you may replace it with another piece of jewelry to prevent closure. Be sure to clean the new jewelry thoroughly first.
It is very important that your piercing is not left open overnight, as young piercings can close in within minutes, even years after your appointment.
Then, get in touch with us so we can book a visit with our piercer to replace your jewelry.

We know you’re excited to change out your jewelry and style your ears, but it is essential to keep your piercing jewelry in until the the ear has fully healed. Depending on the location of your piercing it can take anywhere from 4 to 6 months for healing. You can talk to your piercer about this at your appointment.
We offer a variety of stylish, flat back jewelry, that is safe to use for your initial piercing.

To ensure proper healing, we do not pierce multiple sets of lobes in the same appointment. Your piercer will help you with booking your second set following your first appointment, after seeing your body’s response to the piercing. Typically, we recommend waiting 6-8 weeks before piercing the next set of holes.
Likewise, though we offer ear styling appointments for 3+ single piercings, the piercer may need to split the appointment in two if the desired piercings are in close proximity to one other. This is done to ensure proper and thorough healing.
